Upcoming Readings & Events
(check back for more events as they are added)
Buzzy will be teaching her popular workshop on Writing a Great Book Proposal at this year’s Writer’s Retreat in the Rockies. A few spots are still available. See details below and at the link.
The Writer’s Retreat in the Rockies, October 16-18, at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, brings together some of Colorado’s most talented writers and publishing experts, including keynote speakers, Todd Mitchell and Shane Kuhn, to share their wisdom and experiences with other writers in one of the most beautiful places in our state in autumn.
As part of your conference registration fee, participant can have 10 pages critiqued and receive written feedback from Faculty Member, Rachel Weaver. Participants can also win a chance to have literary agent Shannon Hassan read the first 25 pages of their novel and a synopisis OR a book proposal and then have a one-on-one meeting with her at the conference to discuss the work. Three winners will be chosen.
Make it a full writing retreat weekend by staying at the YMCA of the Rockies and fully immersing yourself in your writing. There will be time set aside each morning and afternoon to find a quiet place and lose yourself in your words, putting to use the inspiration and information you received during the sessions.
Buzzy will be teaching a seminar on book proposals for Sandstone Editing of Louisville, Colorado. To sign up, send an email to: email@example.com
The Why, What and How of Writing a Great Nonfiction Book Proposal
Sunday May 17th, 1-3pm,Office Evolution, 357 McCaslin Suite 200 (at the west end of the parking lot behind Chipotle and Tibets), Louisville CO 80027
Your book proposal is your calling card. If you are an unpublished author, this is your chance to show an agent/publisher what you can do. The book proposal is your first impression and you want to make it a great one.
In this workshop, author Buzzy Jackson will explain:
What your proposal should contain
How to format a book proposal.
Samples of successful proposals.
What editors and agents are looking for in a proposal.
How writing a proposal can be a useful exercise in helping you understand your own book project.
You will leave the workshop with a solid understanding of what a book proposal is, what it entails, and with a book proposal template to take home and apply to your own book project.
